I've found myself listening to these songs over and over again, 'cause I seriously never got tired of them. 'Specially the chorus of Skip under Lide might be one of the best damn melodies I've heard in quite some time."

Norwegian folk-metal bands seem to be floating on a wind of change these days. Up until now, we had none who managed to make a name for themselves, but then, all of a sudden, Lumsk and Ásmegin strike me down with 2 monster-albums.
But I still have to make clear that the sound of the two are rather different. Whereas Ásmegin use a lot of growls and extreme parts, Lumsk tone it down a bit and use only clean vocals.

Lumsk come from my hometown, Trondheim, where they've been playing a lot of gigs and releasing a few demos. This has gotten them a lot of publicity, and they also were invited to play at the Inferno-festival earlier this year. One can safely say they've gotten off to a good start, and with Åsmund Frædegjevar, they also prove their ability to deliver the goods on a full-length album. I have to admit it gets a bit tirering, perhaps was 13 tracks 3 too much. But anyway, the quality is quite top notch most of the time. Check out the first 3 tracks, including the intro. I've found myself listening to these songs over and over again, 'cause I seriously never got tired of them. 'Specially the chorus of Skip under Lide might be one of the best damn melodies I've heard in quite some time.

In my opinion, the parts where the violin and the female vocals dominate work out the best, but the more heavy parts are good as well. What I miss is a bit of variation from the guitars, the riffs do get a bit onesided.
One thing they've managed quite excellently, is to bring out the particular mood and atmosphere perfect for this kind music, and they've managed to connect the Viking-lyrics to the music in a splendid fashion.
The reason I'm giving such a "low" score is that I know this band has a great deal of potential, and can manage to do a lot better on their next release. 'Cause I seriously hope there will be one, Norway needs this type of bands! 78/100 p
