"Their second album 'Troll' was already a tasteful album with delicate folk decorated in massive metal elements, but this album is possibly even more refined and sophisticated."

'Det Vilde Kor' (The Wild Chorus) is the third album from folk metal formation Lumsk from Norway. Their folk influences increases on every new album, but when you take a look on their website and look for their personal favourites, you won't see any folk at all. It's mostly metal, hard rock, sympho, and sometimes fusion/jazz, but not a word about folk. Or it has to be the bass player who mentioned Jethro Tull. Therefore it may rather sound strange that they are so active with traditional music and folklore. This time the lyrics are even fully token from the works of the Norwegian writer/novelist Knut Hamsun. It could also be laziness of the band, because they already got the lyrics and only needed to come up with some nice tunes for the words.
This sounds maybe a bit supercilious, but that doesn't deserve this album, because although I don't understand any syllable of the Norwegian lyrics, the overall sound of folk marinated in metal with fairytale-like, sweetened vocals from Stine Mari Langstrand is very atmospheric and stunning. Still, also the metal ingredients of the album have something of that nostalgic mood: a Rainbow guitar-lick, a Yes keyboard line, A Deep Purple riff. Their second album 'Troll' was already a tasteful album with delicate folk decorated in massive metal elements, but this album is possibly even more refined and sophisticated. If it's only for the reason that all spotlights are now on Stine Mari, no more men with weaker vocal talents that spoils the fun. Except for the beautiful, subdued ballad 'Om Hundrede Aar Er Alting Glemt', which is a duet with Ola Bremnes (from the folk trio Kari, Ola en Lars Bremnes), who sounds like a superb Norwegian impersonator of Leonard Cohen. Although the band slowly becomes more interesting for folkheads than metalheads, folky metalheads who like bands as Hedningarna, Hoven Droven and Gjallarhorn will certainly dig this as well. 80/100
